The Sustainability & Environmental Education Division offers classes, programs and presentations for adult education in the areas of composting, household chemicals, litter awareness, recycling, gardening, energy efficiency, water conservation and air quality.

Program requests are considered on a first come, first served basis. Requests typically take at least 2 weeks to schedule.
We are happy to schedule speakers for your group but request a minimum group size of 10.

"Sustainable! Eco-friendly! Go green!" What does it all mean? This program is a beginner's guide to making sense of the green hype and to incorporating inexpensive, environmentally-friendly changes into your daily routine. The class can be modified to reflect the needs at home or in the office.
Energy bills got you down? Learn a variety of simple, energy efficient adjustments for your home that can lower your utility bills and conserve natural resources.
Where your water comes from and why are we in drought? How can you use water more efficiently? Learn ways to help you reduce water use. This presentation can be customized to fit the specific needs of your group related to water resources in Plano.
How can you recycle broken or unwanted electronics? Why is it important to do so? Learn about one of the fastest-growing types of waste and how you can recycle it safely and responsibly.
What is the real cost of plastic water bottles and grocery bags? Take a cradle-to-grave look at the production, use and disposal of our favorite plastic items and their impact on the environment. The presentation also offers great suggestions on how you can minimize plastic in your life.
Every day in the United States each person throws away almost five pounds of garbage. Where does it all go? Find out about municipal waste programs, the local landfill, the work that goes into disposing our waste and why it is important to reduce, reuse and recycle.
Kids love to garden -- and it's so easy to do! This fun, hands-on presentation will give you simple tips and useful ideas to start gardening with your children.
